The Girl Child

ImageIn  2004, the Zambian girl child brought pride and some form of recognition for Zambia. Once unknown females won first prizes in international competitions such as the Big Brother Africa Competition and the Project Fame Competition. Cherise Makubale and Lindiwe Allamu, both won competitions which have seen Zambia become recognized as having well behaved and talented women-“Girl Childs.”
 
The Story of Africa

ImageAfrica was once the wealthiest continent in the world. It had thriving metropolises that were centers of trade and technology. Before northern Europe had universities, Africa had centers of learning at Timbuktu and Jenne that drew students from as far away as Rome and Greece. When Europe was still a collection of clans fighting to stay alive, Africa had great kingdoms with courts of law. In 1066 A.D. when the Normans invaded a little known island called England, they could muster an army of only 15,000 soldiers. In the same year, the west African state of Ghana could put 200,000 warriors in the field. The Arabs invaded Europe in the eighth century A.D., and they managed to push all the way through Spain into France. But when they invaded west Africa, they were stopped.

The New Year came to Masaiti Boma, spreading like a bright stain across the peasant farms, soaking into the dawn and discoloring it.

The Boma was quiet. Very quiet. The air was mild, as if the last exhalation of the night still lay upon it.

The dog stood motionless on a formation that thrust up from an open slope. The wind gently ruffled his fur. He was lost in the woods. The woods had been unnaturally silent and devoid of the scent of prey. The most bitterdays of food shortage had more promise than this.
 
Who Was Tupac?

Tupac Shakur was born on, June 16 1971. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. At the time of his death he stood at 5'9 and weighed 165.

He got his name from an Inca Indian chief. Tupac Amaru means "shining serpant".Shakur means "thankfull to God " in Arabic.

The Intl. Film Festival of Zambia is calling for entries for its second edition, to run in the capital, Lusaka, Sept. 5-13.

Organizers are inviting all filmmakers, producers and directors to enter human rights programs, short films and documentaries by July 30.

Being held in partnership with Vilole Images Prods., the festival will include training workshops, a filmmakers and partners forum, public film screenings, art exhibitions and pitching sessions for Zambian filmmakers as part of a Zambian and Finnish Embassy Project Development partnership capacity building program.
