Gung ho is a word that originates from the American Indian language, and if adopted in our day to day living we can make this world a better place. Most companies today fail because employees and employers mind sets have lost the values of making a Gung ho! Organization.
In a Gung Ho organization, principles have to be in place if the organization is to reach and achieve its desired objectives. 1. SPIRIT OF THE SQUIRREL People need to know that they make this world a better place if they understand their place and not the work they do. Self-esteem should be boasted and its power ranks up there with love. Everyone works towards a shared goal, take some time and watch how active squirrels work. The overall focus brings to attention productivity. Stop focusing on problems and start looking for those who are making positive contributions. Values guide all plans, decisions and action in the squirrel kingdom, as values are roads you can count on and sustain the effort. Values become real only when you demonstrate them in the way you act and the way you insist others behave. 2. THE WAY OF THE BEAVER In the Beaver’s animal Kingdom, they are in control of achieving goals. Goals and values define the playing field and rules of the game. Freedom to take charge comes from knowing exactly what territory is your. Here thoughts, feelings, needs and dreams are respected, listened to and acted upon. You can’t be in control unless the rest of the organization supports you and doesn’t tear your work apart. Information is the key to power. Everyone needs full open access to information. Nothing drains self esteem faster than knowing you’re ripping off the system, not contributing. If people can’t do fair days world for a fair days pay, you demean them. Gong Ho requires a stretch: work that demands peoples best and allows them to learn and move ahead into unchaste territory. So Gong Ho my friend!!!! 3. GIFT OF THE GOOSE In the goose Kingdom there is a warm spirit of cheering each other on. When you catch people doing something right congratulate them as this is an affirmation that makes who people are and what they do matter, and that they are making a valuable contribution toward achieving goals. This is what is missing in many organizations hence employees just work to have butter and bread on the table with no VISION!!!1 Telling people what a great you’ve done or presenting an award is an active recognition of their contribution. You can’t overdo TRUE congratulations: Timely Responsive, Unconditional and Enthusiastic. E=mc² - Enthusiasm equals Mission times Cash and Congratulations. - Worthwhile work being in control of achieving goals-that’s a mission
- Cash comes first-you need to feed needs (food, clothing etc) before you can feed the spirit with congratulations
- Cheering each other on brings enthusiasm to work
Just like No score, no game and cheer the progress. At football games like the world cup qualifier, fans don’t sit mute as the ball is moved the field, waiting for touch down before the cheering. Cheer the progress shared with everyone generates excitement. Thus congratulations should be more Spontaneous than planned, individual than blanket, specific than general and unique that traditional. If the spirit of the squirrel, the way of the beaver and the gift of he goose can be practiced in our organizations, we will see massive productivity and no company can close down. So remember GONG HO! MY FRIEND AND KEEP ON SUBALIATING THE CONCOMALIATION.
