I touch the sky undisputed like the eagle
I come forth into a world where I have no equal
I make fears disappear and dreams turn reality
I carry men into the future and unveil their true identity
I am loved, I am admired, but who am I
I created the great waterfalls and engineered pyramids
I birthed unimaginable resources, wars rage over my dividends
I was loved because you believed in me, you told me so
I was admired because I struck the core of life and birthed hope
Yet in my success, I found failure
In my rejoicing and celebration, I have seen much despair
Like the Zambezi flows to power the pride of our land
The same water will flow and destroy homes, a fate too deep to understand
As the moon shines across acres of savannah fields
So my broken past is once again remembered, wounds too grave to heal
My welfare is consumed by the dilemma of life
Once again I ask, who am I
As the sun rises to bring forth the life and the opportunity of a new born baby
So the sun will set to record countless deaths of children dying in poverty
Why does the shadow of pain linger behind a moment of joy?
We lift our heads and seek to know what make a happy man cry
I was first born in a family of giants but I was discovered last
Yet time shall witness the rising of one, the fading of the past
And when all my wealth is no more
When all the gold, the diamonds and the copper ore
Shall fade into the continents, you will wish me dead but I shall not die
You will wish me cursed but like the eagle I will rise
My sons, the product of my labor pains, the reason I am, shall defend me
The physicians of hope, architects of the future, the prophets of peace,
The champions of equity, they will never cease
Born to put stars in the galaxies, I shall live forever
I AM AFRIKA
