Zambian music has greatly changed and has grown so much in these past few years to levels no one thought it would reach. It has grown from sounding so dry to sounding so rich with an International feel, full of flavor, quality and variety. The lyrical content and quality of the Beats has really gone beyond the Zambian borders. This has largely been due to the coming in of music studios such as David Sling and Romaside. Producers and composers of music play a big role in how the quality of music sounds and thus I decided to conduct a brief Interview with TK of Romaside Studios. TK is behind the release of most of the Albums which have been released on the market. He has produced for artists such as Exile, K’Millian, JK, Danny, Ozzy, Mc wabwino, Ba crazy, Lindi(Lindiwe Allamu), Nalu, Crisis and so many other Artists .His efforts in Zambian music can not go unnoticed in that He is one of the pillars holding Zambian music.
BH: Why do you call yourself TK? TK: Well……..cause those are my Initials Man. My real names are Trevor Kalaluka Siyandi. When were you born? I was born on the 27th of April 1979. How many are you in your family? Well, we are seven and I happen to be the last born. Do your parents support your decision to venture into music and not any other venture? Yeah they do support me!! Reason being that ever since I was young, they have been buying us equipment and I guess that means that the support me. That makes them the best parents a man like me could ever have. Have you ever attended any music lessons? I have never attended any music lessons. I guess am just gifted. Do you think that someone can make it in life without going to school, college or university? Yeah Man!! At the end of the day I think that its possible. I feel that Wisdom is not attained academically but knowledge is. Knowledge is King but without Wisdom its not a thing. But hey, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have to go to School. Going to school makes you relate to your surrounding and to be professional at what you do. What do you do in your spare time? I Love watching movies and spending time with friends cause good ideas come from people around: I get inspired. I also Love to read Encyclopedias. So how is the industry treating you? Are you getting paid well? Yeah am getting paid well… can’t complain, but there are other benefits that are still being put in place such as Radio Royalties. For a long time Musicians haven’t been paid by the Radio Stations that play Zambian music.Basically, the system hasn’t reached a professional level but we are slowly getting there. Right now, most of the money is being made through Concerts. We have come to the end of our Interview. Do you have any last words? Well thanks for your time and your effort. I just want the people out there to continue supporting Zambian artists and Zambian music.
