Andella Chileshe Mathews, a stunning 20 year old, Sports Science and Management student, was crowned Miss Zambia UK 2008 at a glittering celebrity packed event held on Friday 24 October 2008 at the TROXY in London.
Andella beat seven other finalists at a combined event, which celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Miss Zambia UK Beauty Pageant and the 44th Anniversary of Zambian Independence. 19 year old, Jennifer Mimi Mulenga is first runner-up, while Liseli Likuluta, 18 is second runner-up and also scooped top talent, after performing a mesmerising gymnastic routine.
Out of a total of 20 contestants, the top eight finalists were selected to stage the Grand Finals. To mark the 10th Anniversary. Each of the eight finalists was awarded a title. In addition to the winner and the two runner-ups, other titles were: Musonda Kamfwa Malama -Miss Zambia UK Top Model; Vanessa Mutinta Masuku - Miss Diligence; Luwi Katalayi - Miss Congeniality, Kawanga Oduka- Miss Photogenic; and Chewe Chibamba who received the special award of Miss Independence.
Miss Zambia UK Beauty Pageant is a social responsibility initiative Based on the principle of “Beauty with a Purpose”. The pageant celebrates the beauty of every Zambian woman and is dedicated to the memory of all Zambian women who have died from HIV/AIDS. In remembering Zambian women who have died of HIV/AIDS, Zambians are reminded of their responsibility to the children that their sisters have left behind. The beneficiaries of the Pageant are HIV/AIDS orphans and other underprivileged children in Zambia.
Winners and title-holders use their position and influence during the period of their reign and beyond to raise funds for the welfare of HIV/AIDS children.
Miss Zambia UK 2008 will work with the All Star Kids Charity and the Campaign for the 75,000 Street Children in Zambia.
