Matty Cox Production for Quiet Storm Entertainment
Like a mango picked straight from a tree, Tumilange the debut album from Fresh is seriously, absolutely and positively fresh. And just like you have to take a bite off the juicy mango to taste the freshness, you will have to listen to this marvellous album to feel it… you really have to listen to this album!
Produced by none other than Tivo 'The Hitman' Shikapwasha under the auspices of Matty Cox, the productions on Tumilange are Sheer brilliance: Tivo was at his best and deserves a standing ovation or maybe a studio mixer named after him for a job well done.
The album opens with a hilarious skit intro, which falls into the title track, Tumilange. "Step aside young guns and let me show you how it's done" is the message Fresh wants to spread on this particular track which also features Kalifunku Kings Black Muntu. If you feel like dancing, this is one song that you must play. One minute Fresh reminds you of Montel Jordan on 'Guiding Star' then the next minute he reminds you of Prince on 'What the deal'. And just when you think you've heard it all, he goes and teams up with Jagari Chanda, one of the original member of the legendary band 'The Great Witch', and together they perform a remake of the smash hit 'Janet' (this song was originally performed by 'The Witch'). You have to check out this track to marvel at the awesome production.
'Mirror Mirror' with its' funky bass line and rap is a song that will probably have most young people talking for a long time, with 'My Turn To Burn' featuring Destiny most likely to have the same effect. The album also boasts of a host of other artists who include "Tini Love" Tiniso on 'Jokes On You', Geovince and Hanna on 'If You Knew'as well as Alan "Life" Mvula, formerly known as MC Suicide, on 'Life In Kabwata'.
Whether it's dance tracks, smooth ballads or gospel you like, Tumilange has you well covered. It's an R&B album by a very talented Zambian vocalist with his posse, spiced with that distinctive Zambian flavour; music by a generation of new up and coming Zambian musicians and singers whom if given all the necessary support will definitely surprise both us, the listeners and probably most of all, themselves. Represent!
